Step 5: Create your screencast!
Now it's time for the fun part. During this step you will create and share your screencast with your students.
First:
Choose your topic or your skill you want to focus on. Think SIMPLE. Think EASY. This is not meant to make for more work for you! Use ideas from your current units. Reading teachers- you might want to focus on a spelling skill, introduce a new vocabulary word, or expand on a skill you are doing in class. Math teachers- try introducing a new strategy you plan to use or to show an example of how to complete a multi-step word problem. If you have a flipchart already made- use that! That way you just have to focus on the actual screencasting aspect.
Next:
Create your screencast! Remember- it may take a few try's to get it right, but screencasts are essentially made to make your life easier. Do you really want to repeat the directions for a task 25 times when each student asks? Screencasts allow you to be in two places at one time. As you are creating, keep in mind the length of the video. Videos that are short, sweet, and to the point tend to hold a student's interest most.
Finally:
Upload your video in a way you learned about in step 4, and use it with your students! Think about when you want them to view the screencast- center rotation, morning work, before or after a lesson? Once you do this, please move on to step 6 to complete the session 2 reflection.
